Change of direction within IMREDD
Emmanuel Tric has been appointed Interim Director of IMREDD as of 1st February 2023. He succeeds Eric Dumetz, who has been the Institute's Director since September 2021, and previously Deputy Director since 2013. After 10 years of conceptualising and co-building IMREDD, Eric Dumetz wished to dedicate himself fully to the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation, which is beginning its renewal with new ambitions.
Emmanuel Tric is a Professor of Geophysics at Université Côte d’Azur and at the GEOAZUR laboratory. He was President of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis from 2017 to 2020, until the creation of Université Côte d’Azur. His research activities have covered various themes ranging from past instabilities of the Earth's magnetic field to processes associated with thermosolutal convection in enclosed environments, dehydration effects of subducting tectonic plates, or mountain slope instabilities. He has held various positions: Vice-President of the Board of Directors, Director of the Earth-Environment-Space department (2005-2009), of the Doctoral Studies College (2007-2010), and of the Géoazur laboratory (2010–2016).
Eric Dumetz is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering – Automation and holds a Doctorate in Automation from the Ecole Nationale d’Arts et Métiers, where he co-created a technological research team (ERT) within the Lille Electrotechnics and Power Electronics laboratory. This involved establishing a technological platform for High-Speed machine tools, followed by Cartesian robots and 5-6 axis robots. He has held various responsibilities: member of the Mechanical Engineering Aggregation jury (2002-2006), deputy director (2015-2018) then director of the Arts et Métiers ParisTech Lille centre (2018-2013), and President of the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation (2018-2022).
Eric Dumetz will now be able to devote himself fully, as Director General, to the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation and its development as part of its renewal on 1 January 2023 under the Presidency of Mathieu Garotta.
The Foundation is a major lever for fostering excellence across all disciplines, by actively participating in the emergence of talent at Université Côte d’Azur, particularly through the development of public-private partnerships on future-oriented topics. Always serving a collective, the Foundation promotes research by facilitating the emergence of new economic opportunities from innovation, creating sustainable value and long-term jobs through the weaving of close relationships between the public and private sectors. It actively supports initiatives aimed at improving people's quality of life and preserving their health, by backing major research programmes led by Université Côte d’Azur, such as those dedicated to cancer or healthy ageing.
In these times when issues concerning the environment, the impacts of global changes on our territories and their resilience, the management of our resources, the energy and ecological transition are increasingly present in our daily lives, it is fundamental to create places for discussion, sharing and knowledge transfer so that we can, together, as actors from both the academic and socio-economic worlds, rise to the challenges we face in these fields related to the environment, risks and sustainable development. IMREDD is one of these places. Its ambition is to bring together all those who wish to contribute to original projects that address these issues and whose interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity constitute undeniable approaches. — Emmanuel Tric, Director of IMREDD
Deeply rooted in its territory, the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation develops positive future opportunities for people every day, thanks to the generosity of the general public and committed businesses, with the support of local authorities and the State.
It contributes to the renown of all academic talents: Arts, Biology, Communication, Law, Economics, Education, Environment, Management, Languages, Literature, Business Administration, Medicine, Digital, Health, Fundamental Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Sport…
This ambition is met by the desire to facilitate the emergence, development and growth of the talents of over 32,000 students. These years of study will forever mark their life's journey. It is therefore only natural that we wish for them to be as fulfilling, professionally and personally inspiring as possible. — Eric Dumetz, CEO of the Université Côte d’Azur Foundation
