Module IMPACT: Students informed about major risks at IMREDD
On Monday 4 November, for the second year running, the Université Côte d'Azur and the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Fire and Rescue Service organised a multi-hazard integration course called «IMPACT» at the IMREDD for more than 130 students from the 8 courses taking part in the IMREDD workshops.
The aim of the exercise was to anticipate the impact of global warming and the ecological transition on the development of the Plaine du Var region. The students devised and managed major crises in 16 exercises supervised by fire brigade, gendarmerie and police officers, as well as research professors from the University.
The IMPACT («Immediate Management Planning ACTion») module, designed by Lieutenant-Colonel Frédéric Castagnola, Head of the Citizenship functional group at the SDIS 06,is a dynamic series of tabletop exercises and multi-hazard scenarios for the general public. Lasting 3 hours, it teaches participants how to assess the risks in their area, and quickly engages them in planning how best to act in crisis situations and exceptional emergencies.
The IMPACT module is part of IMREDD's transdisciplinary workshops. It involves students from 8 separate disciplinary courses to the risks in their area in order to assess the impact of climate change on the development of the Plaine du Var.
