On 7 November 2024, Damienne Provitolo, Deputy Director for Science at IMREDD and President of High Local Council for Climate and Biodiversity<\/a>, She spoke at the Metropolitan Council of the Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur Metropolis. On this occasion, she presented the main recommendations of the High Council, intended to guide the metropolis\u2019s adaptation strategy in the face of climate challenges. This report, finalised at the beginning of the year, brings together 170 proposals developed by a collective of independent experts, mobilised for one year to define guidelines for the territory\u2019s mitigation and adaptation.<\/p>\n

Established in 2023, the High Local Council for Climate and Biodiversity is an independent body comprising 17 volunteer specialists from various disciplines, including agriculture, urban planning, biodiversity, and environmental health, among others. Its aim is to provide scientific expertise for the decisions of the metropolitan executive, while also proposing solutions for the decades to come. To design the report, the experts formed four working groups covering key themes: preparedness for extreme weather events, resource management, sustainable land use planning, and public engagement.<\/p>\n

During her presentation, Damienne Provitolo shared some recommendations for each area covered, illustrating the High Council's efforts to address the specific climate challenges of the Nice region. She recalled that the report, although consultative, aims to support the metropolitan executive in its strategic choices for a sustainable transition.
