Smart City Innovation Center
The Smart City Innovation Center (SCIC) is a technological platform that allows for the materialisation, on an industrial scale, different key concepts and technologies for the Institute’s Strategic Activity Areas. It is a place of experimentation, training and demonstration for the Smart City of the future.
The technology platform is an economic development tool based on an offer of resources (equipment, personnel and associated services) open to the training and research stakeholders of the Université Côte d’Azur and to partner companies, with the goal of fostering innovation and knowledge transfer and contributing to job creation and territorial competitiveness.
THE “SMART CITY INNOVATION CENTER” IS A PROJECT FINANCED WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION WITH THE EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND. THE PROJECT ALSO BENEFITS FROM PUBLIC CO-FINANCING OF THE NICE CÔTE D’AZUR METROPOLE, THE ALPES-MARITIMES DEPARTMENT, THE PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D’AZUR REGION AND THE FRENCH STATE, PARTICULARLY IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE “INITIATIVE D’EXCELLENCE” OPERATION OF THE “INVESTISSEMENTS D’AVENIR” PROGRAM.
-
Design and realization of materials whose properties are inspired by nature.
-
Creation of new innovative materials, physicochemical analysis and design of prototypes from these new materials.
-
Demonstration of energy production, storage and consumption means for building, housing and mobility. Test area for connected objects under real conditions of use.
-
Development of prototypes and machines with artificial intelligence technologies (humanoid robots, autonomous vehicles, drones) with a secure test area.
-
Simulation of individual or collective behaviours based on territorial data.

Learning Center
Located in the heart of the building, the Learning Center is a flexible space adaptable to different activities (conferences, team work). A polyvalent place of formation, exchanges, meetings, synergy, which extends on two levels.
-
In training related to sustainable development and Smart City.
-
Within the laboratories in the fields ofInformation and Communication Sciences and Technologies, Human Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences of the Earth and the Universe.
A building with high energy performance
The future building has been designed with technologies that allow a conscious and efficient use of energy and natural resources.
-
The photovoltaic panels on the roof paired with a battery storage system and the integration of the building into a smart grid, combined with an energy consumption management tool, illustrate IMREDD’s willingness to meet the criteria for energy efficiency and environmental exemplarity.
-
The sunshades allow the diffusion of the brightness while preventing the direct incidence of the solar rays, which entails a reduction of the energy needs related to the lighting and the air conditioning.
-
The integration of the building into the geothermal network of the Plaine du Var Concerted Development Zone will save energy through the recovery of heat and cold.
