Sustainable City Demonstrators: Parc Méridia
Goals
As a winner of the national ’Démonstrateurs de la Ville Durable de France 2030’ programme, the Parc Méridia project aims to transform the eco-neighbourhood located at the heart of the Éco-Vallée into a replicable model of a productive, sustainable and resilient area. Led by EPA Nice Écovallée, in partnership with the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Area, the City of Nice and the Université Côte d’Azur via IMREDD, the project officially entered the implementation phase on 8 July 2025, following the signing of the funding agreement.
The demonstrator is based on six innovative actions covering soil regeneration, the development of urban agriculture, the establishment of circular economy loops, citizen mobilisation through new consultation methods, local economic revitalisation, and the implementation of smart mobility solutions. The objective is to experiment, in a mixed-use district, with urban models that reconcile economic attractiveness, social inclusion, and environmental transition.
The IMREDD plays a central role in this process by developing a tool to model mobility patterns linked to the economic activities of the ZAC, enabling the optimisation of traffic flows, the reduction of the carbon footprint of travel, and the support of urban planning. The institute also contributes to the structuring of spatial data, the monitoring of trials and the assessment of the impact of innovations tested in the field.
Spanning 64 hectares, including 20 hectares of landscaped parkland, Parc Méridia will eventually accommodate more than 5,000 homes, public facilities, productive activities, and shops. As a full-scale demonstrator, it heralds the 15-minute city, integrating services, nature, and sustainable mobility within an urban project consistent with France 2030's ambitions.
