Water in the Alpes-Maritimes territories
Goals
The «Water in the Alpes-Maritimes Territories» Partnership Chair is a concrete and ambitious scientific framework established to address local water challenges.
Founded by Université Côte d’Azur, its Foundation, the Alpes-Maritimes Department and all the intercommunalities (the Cannes Pays de Lérins Agglomeration Community, the Pays de Grasse Agglomeration Community, the French Riviera Agglomeration Community, the Sophia-Antipolis Agglomeration Community, the Alpes d’Azur Communities of Communes, the Paillons Countries Communities of Communes, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis), the Chair co-constructs with stakeholders solutions for securing resources in the short, medium, and long term.
Areas of study
The Chair adopts a territorialised, collaborative, and multidisciplinary approach, considering human and social sciences, natural and life sciences, physical sciences, and digital sciences around three axes:
-
Water resources and aquatic environments
Diagnosing the current and future state of water resources and aquatic environments.
-
The uses of the resource
Securing water resources to ensure the sustainability of all uses.
-
Water governance
Adopting a long-term systemic approach for equitable territorial support
Water is at the heart of climate change adaptation strategies. This unprecedented commitment to the Chair project reflects a collective awareness within the Alpes-Maritimes region regarding the climate challenge, as securing this resource in the medium and long term impacts all socio-economic sectors and levels of governance. Through the Chair, the territory has established a tool for ongoing dialogue between the coast, mid-country, and highlands.
