Event review: «Mountains in Transition» at the heart of climate and territorial challenges
On 20 May 2026, the High Council for Local Climate and Biodiversity's Meetings were held at the University Centre of the Mediterranean in Nice on the theme of «Mountain in Transition».
This day brought together researchers, experts, and local stakeholders to discuss the environmental, economic, and social transformations affecting mountain areas. Several major themes were addressed during the presentations and discussions: the preservation of living things, water management in mountain regions, climate risks, transitioning economic dynamics, and issues of health and quality of life.
The discussions highlighted, in particular, the particular vulnerability of mountain territories to the effects of climate change. The evolution of water resources, pressure on ecosystems, adaptation of human activities, and anticipation of risks are all subjects that underscore the need to collectively consider future transitions.
Through this meeting, the High Local Council for Climate and Biodiversity proposed a time for exchange and reflection on the climate and environmental challenges that directly concern the Alpine and Mediterranean territories.
